Spoilers

Wow. All I can say is just, wow. This was such an interesting concept for an episode. Just The Doctor and his cleverness. The Doctor, technically, managed to live over 2 billion years without actually aging so, or remembering so. Just a brilliantly  clever premis for an episode.
Firstly, I want to talk about The Doctor’s mind. The fact that he was able to think so quickly just really emphasises his intelligence. But it also made us see that The Doctor cannot be alone and that he misses Clara so so much. Her appearance in this episode was great because it was just a memory but it didn’t ruin the episode. In fact, it made it much much more emotional. It didn’t ruin her death last episode at all because it’s still real. She still died, but she’s still prominent in The Doctor’s mind. She was his best friend and he doesn’t want her to have to go.

The concept of The Doctor’s hell was very interesting. The concept of the being that wanted to capture The Doctor being very slow added a lot to the episode. In a way, it reminded me of the Cybermen; a slow but very deadly villain. I really liked the Villain, and the way that it could be stopped with confessions was very interesting, it’s been the theme of this series and it was brought back, in a big way this episode – ready for the finale. The set was great and the fact that it was a prison (or a hell) created wholely for The Doctor made it a scary prospect which made me very worried for The Doctor.

The kind of time-loop that The Doctor was stuck in was done very well and the fact that it took him billions of years to break through the wall, meaning that The Doctor had to die and die again was very dark. I feel like this series has taken on a darker theme. There’s been more swearing (kinda) and seeing The Doctor being singed and bleeding was pretty dark for Doctor Who. That’s something that is expect to see in Torchwood. Honestly, I do definitely like this fact, I just hope that the show doesn’t lose lots of younger fans due to overprotective parents.

But, yes, I definitely enjoyed this episode and I really can’t wait for the finale next week.

Spoilers

Hello, it’s Elliott, and ah, the time has come. I’m going to attempt to control my feeble human mind, from cracking immensely, for the start of this review. There are many beautiful things in this episode that deserve a particular mention from me. Therefore, I shall mention the less emotional things first. Now, in this episode we saw the return of three very key and great characters; Ahildr/Lady Me/Mayor Me (however her needs for a title are served), Rigsy (the great artist with a recently revealed adorable new human as his most prized piece yet) and, of course, most key of all, The Doctor’s clean cut suit; more purple and dashing than ever. I am unsure of whether the return in style serves a sense of significance, or he just felt like changing. We’ll see. It could possibly be a timey-wimey thing. But probably not. We’ll see.

I am glad to see the return of Retcon (a drug used predominantly back in Torchwood), which is nice because it really ties the universe together much much more. Also, the line about Jane Austin and Clara was very random but very cool. I dunno, I just found that quite funny. The scene with Clara hanging from the TARDIS was very cool but also; it was like the final straw to her confidence, well the Clara/Rigsy scene was probably the final straw in that. I loved the concept of the Trap Street and I thought it was done very well, although I don’t particularly see how an emotionally inhibited Cyberman could live in a community such as that. But yes the concept was interesting and amazing, and very much Doctor Who.

Okay, now I can allow myself to speak free. She’s gone, oh she’s gone. This is it. She’s dead. Finito.  Worst of all, I really hope they don’t find a way around this, yes I love Clara, but it’s her time – and I know how much this is going to break The Doctor. I think the worst part is, is that it was so stupid. It could’ve been Rigsy, or The Doctor, but she made it so that it was difinitively her. She chose to sacrifice her death. And just the scene itself was beautiful, it wasn’t a kind death. She screamed as her very essence was ripped from her. I am so intrigued, but so scared to see what this does to The Doctor and I can’t wait for next week. The real icing on the cake was Rigsy’s memorial. That was who looked up to her, who cared for her, who was saved by her. And the memorial to her made it even more sad. I love Clara and am very sad to bid her goodbye. She has been great to the series and will continue to be a part of it, even with her departure. Goodbye to Clara Oswald.

Doctor Who Sleep No More

Spoilers

Hello, my name is Elliott, and welcome to my Reaction of Doctor Who: Series 9, Episode 9, Sleep No More. Well this was totally chilling and extremely immersive, and at times ridiculously confusing; but that wasn’t a bad thing, we were forced to question everything happening that made barely any sense until it did make sense. The episode even ended on a scary prospect, one that, I’m sure, will be explored next week.

Ah so, the direction of the episode, that was the thing that made this episode really unique. It used the found-footage genre of direction but gave it an interesting twist, it used the idea of the technology controlling their minds, really making the threat seem even more prominent. And, the way that it was directed meant that you had to be pretty eagle-eyed to ask who it was until it got to the point where everyone else was starting to notice.

The characters in this episode were decent, nothing amazing, yet decent. However, the revealed villain of the episode was quite sadistic and, basically, crazy; which was interesting to see. Also, the idea of the grunt was interesting because it was an interesting look at the future.

The concept of the sleep machine was interesting, which is again an interesting look at what the future could be like. Of course, being Doctor Who, that meant that there were monsters that spawned from that. They created a lot of fear throughout the episode, which added a lot of tension to the episode.

I did really enjoy this episode and I can’t wait to see what happens next week.

The Zygon Inversion

Spoilers

Hello, it’s Elliott, and welcome to my, double,ย review of the Series 9 two-parter; The Zygon Invasion / The Zygon Inversion. I do have to say, I think that this has been my favourite storyarch of the series so far; I have loved the whole series, however this was pretty much flawless, for me. There were that many great moments throughout, therefore I want to point them all out.

The beginning of this really set up the connectivity between this and The Day of the Doctor, which was only lacking in the round-off to the Zygon sub-plot, therefore, it was amazing that we got to see it properly finished here.

The concept of the two Osgood’s was one that I thought was done very well, and it meant that they could still have the, amazing, character; without completely skipping around the previous decision of having her killed. Therefore, it didn’t feel like a cop-out decision, and still made it so that the decision still did matter.

The global scale of The Zygon Invasion was done very well and made it feel as though this was a real invasion of Earth. It felt truly global and I loved that factor.

The scene between the soldier and the Zygon, posing as his mother, was truly gripping and I was very impressed with the acting. That scene really harnessed (get it? as it’s written by Peter Harness, I’m hilarious, I know) the full power of the Zygons, and really set up their threat.

Bonnie, Bonnie was a pretty amazing part of this episode. She allowed Jenna Coleman to truly work her magic. Her scenes, especially the ones between her and Clara, were truly amazing and she was a great addition to the episode. I also love how she became Osgood’s twin at the end. It was a great bit of character development. And I loved the concept of Clara still being able to affect her, yet not fully.

The Zygon that was transformed into it’s true form was a really awful (as in cruel and terrible, not badly written). I really found it chilling that the Zygon was driven to suicide because of that – this story really brought in some dark themes.

And, last but not least, that final speech, the final stand-off between the humans and the Zygons, the Doctor’s peacekeeping, was absolutely mind-blowing. The way that he makes them think, the way that he uses his personal heart-ache, his personal torture, to stop them, was amazing. That scene might’ve just finalised the Twelfth Doctor being my favourite Doctor. Seeing the Doctor become truly emotional and to almost collapse in sadness and anger at their stupidity. He was written beautifully in this and I was absolutely captivated, I was almost crying at Peter Capaldi’s performance. This really let us see what drives The Twelfth Doctor, no actually The Doctor as a whole, the desire to save others from the pain he feels. That was just unbelievable and it will stand to be one of my favourite scenes in anything, ever.

Random Movie Review: Spectre

Spoilers

I am just going to say that I am a fan of Bond, or at least modern Bond. I love it. And that is why I absolutely loved this movie. This was the bow; tied to the present that was Daniel Craig’s James Bond run. This gave a whole new perspective on the previous three Bond movies – they were all connected by one man, Blofeld. This gave fans of the modern Bond films a treat if they were a dedicated viewer (and managed to sit through Quantum of Solace at least twice). It gave us a lot of Easter Eggs and made the events of the films feel more connected than ever before. My overall enjoyment of this film, as someone who really appreciates properly setting up the plot while producing good storytelling, made me enfuriated to hear the immediate responses of two people that I watched the film with was they that thought Skyfall was better. Which is okay and that is a fair opinion, however when you watch a new film that shouldn’t be your immediate response, especially when it has so much to offer.
One of the great things about this film is that it was tied to every other Daniel Craig bond film, yet it didn’t ruin their stories. One of the best things about this tie up was the reccuring characters. We had; the new M, Q and Miss Eve Moneypenny, and of course, the man himself, James Bond. Plus, we also got to see the return of Mr White; the only decent villain to appear in Quantum. That was nice as it was even more of a tie to the previous three movies. I would have to say that a particularly loved Q in this movie. I thought he was great in Skyfall, however he didn’t get enough screen time. Whereas, here, he got the time that he deserved and served as a great addition to the film. I love his character and what he does to the plot. However I would’ve loved a line from him about how much he hates flying, just for continuity purposes. I also liked how this new M was different to the old one, she was more of a desk type but managed to handle everything in that sense. Whereas the new M handled things much more personally and with action. I really liked that sense, as it showed a difference in the two characters. My only problem was Eve. I thought that she was a little underused later on in the movie, however I still love her character.

As for new characters: Mr White’s daughter; Maddeline, was a nice a addition. She wasn’t like a lot of other Bond girls and definately reminded me of Vesper in that sense. She was a great character and I do think that she was fitting for Bond’s leave of MI6. C was an interesting character, I love Andrew Scott because of Sherlock, therefore I have to say that I was intrigued in the character. And he was a character that you have to love to hate, at the end of the film. However, nearer the start, you can’t be completely sure if of him.

The villains were all very good. I suppose you can count Mr White as a villain. And it was so interesting to see him in this old, broken state and it was actually quite sad. I can not remember this guy’s name but the big guy who seemed to take bullets like it was the dart of a nerf gun. What a badass. He was definately the large physical threat of the film and he really did challenge Bond and made you worry for him. Then we have, of course, Blofeld. I really enjoyed him as the villain of the movie, I liked the kind of villain that he was; more of a sit down, less action, yet very smart villain. I loved the actor’s performance and yeah I found that he was a pretty intense villain.

The plot of the film was interesting throughout, like I said, it incorporated the previous films and rounded them off well. It had a casual string of action throughout and felt very much like a Bond movie. Bond was on form as his usual; badass, womanising, cold self. He was definately very great in this movie, and there was an amazing blend of everything that makes a great Bond movie. I would defiantly advice watching this movie if you’re a Bond fan, and if not then it is still an interesting thriller and this movie will, hopefully make you want to watch the three previous, at least.

TWD Thank You

Spoilers

Holy fucking shizzle (I don’t usually swear in my posts and I apologise but I didn’t know how to put it into any other words. This episode was insane. I was completely on the edge of my seat at the whole episode and I was totally not expecting anything like this to happen. After, almost (I promise almost), falling off of my seat – I almost died from emotions (now I don’t wanna sound like some annoying fangirl dying of feels) but, I have to say, this episode really tugged at my heartstrings and made me really care about some new character, while making me really realise just how much I care about one of the characters that we’ve been with for all of this time. Okay, firstly I am going to be talking, a lot, about Glenn. Then I’m going to talk more about, arguably, one of the best episodes of The Walking Dead ever.

Ahh Glenn, good ol’ Glenn. Is he or isn’t he? That, is the question. Okay, so personally, I don’t think that he died in that scene. Not whenย we see lots of walkers over him pulling guts from a body. I think that this has got to be Nicholas body – because of the fact that Glenn was wearing a blue shirt in this episode. Nicholas was wearing a kind of Khaki grey apparel. When Glenn looks down, we see, what I think, is Nicholas’ body getting ripped apart. At first I thought Glenn was gone for sure, but on second viewings I think he might’ve survived. How he’ll get out of that situation, I have no idea. Post in the comments what your theory is.ย Okay, but let’s just say that Glenn did die in that scene. Imagine how horrible and heartbreaking ย and shocking that would be. It would destroy everyone. Just the way that the scene was shot completely took me by surprise. I had absolutely no idea what was about to happen and it may have killed one of the best characters in The Walking Dead ever.

Okay, so, I do have to talk about the supporting cast of this episode. It was one of the best yet. Every death and injury that they took made you feel for them more and more. And David, wow, what a character for just a one story character. He was amazing and his story throughout the episode was done so well. We were following all of these characters through the episode and every death made you worry more and more. And every single death, apart from the guy at the start and if your a Nicholas hater then his death you wouldn’t care about, was sad and made you more and more worried. I also loved how Heath progressed as a character from the Michonnne speech. That was really nice and now he feels more like one of the survivors, rather than one of the Alexandrians.

And Rick. God Rick. He really has to find a way out of that predicament and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Also, when the wolves attacked him it was insane how he managed to stop them so easily just shows how hardened and awesome he has become. The way that he was in utter despair at the end of the episode was terrifying to see on Rick’s face. And that despair was something that we haven’t seen since the death of Lori. That just terrifies me and I can’t wait to see how he gets out of it.

I really enjoyed this episode and I hope you enjoyed this reaction. Leave your theory on what happened to Glenn and what you think will happen to Rick in the comments.

Sherlock: How did Sherlock and Moriarty Survive the Roof, Theory

Sherlock and Moriarty

Spoilers

I find it fascinating that I still haven’t posted anything about Sherlock. Which is one of my very favourite television series. Therefore, I have decided to discuss something which a lot of people do not understand and are still speculating over.

Okay, so, after two years of seeing Sherlock jump off of that building, but then appearing at his own tombstone. We were finally given an explanation to how he survived the clutches of death, kind of. We had three explanations given in the episode The Empty Hearse. One of them; involving Moriarty’s body and a perfect face mask of Benedict Cumberbatch’s face. The other; involving a, quite frankly, terrible Sherlock dummy, alongside a hero villain kiss. And the final, involving an awesome bouncy castle and the old squashball under the armpit trick.

Now, the difference between these three theories is that they were all created by different people. One, by Anderson, the other by a random fan with a nose-ring, Scottish accent and a lust for gay fanfiction, and the last by Sherlock. The thing is that Sherlock didn’t actually clarify that that last one was true. Which is very interesting and has actually led to this speculation. In my opinion, I think that the last one was true. At least to a certain extent. I think that the squash ball, at least, was used. The first one is a decent enough guess, and it was right in the speculation that Molly knew of Sherlock being alive. However, a lot of things don’t make sense in it. The body couldn’t be taken down to the ground that quickly. The window was still intact when John came to the body. There was no rope and nowhere that it could’ve been attached to. As for the second one… just… yeah. That’s definitely not how it worked. To be honest though, it would’ve been pretty funny if it did.

And now on to Moriarty. It is revealed, at the very end of series 3 that the consulting criminal, Sherlock’s arch nemesis, the primary antagonist has returned from beyond the veil of death. But how? That is something that no fan is completely sure of. However I do think that it will probably have been a body double or something of the sorts. It can’t be too crazy, as it’s very real world. So there can only be a few ways that he could fake a gunshot wound to the head. Yeah, I’m definitely excited to see how he survived. I hope he mentions it in the return of the show.

I hope you liked this post and the kind of post. Comment if you want to see more Sherlock and comment what your theory is of how these two survived.

Doctor Who: The Woman Who Lived, Reaction

The Doctor and Ashildr

Spoilers

Hello, it is Elliott, and welcome to my reaction to the Doctor Who episode; The Woman Who Lived. I will say that this episode was better than last week’s episode. It gave a lot more depth the character of Ashildr or, I guess, me. I am so glad that it did, as it did actually manage to let Maisie Williams show how good of an actress she is, but also it lived up to the hype of her being on Doctor Who. The villain was much more threatening than last week’s villain was and the setting was used much better.

Firstly, I’ve got to talk about Ashildr, and how she’s developed over the centuries. It was really interesting to see and I liked her character a lot more in this episode. The way that she was affected by her immortality is awesome to see and it gave a really vision of how lonely it is to live for so long by having small flashback scene. When we saw the Doctor looking through her journals it really gave a great perspective to why she had grown so cold. Her relationship with the Doctor was done very well, and it worked especially well with just them and no Clara. I loved every scene with both of them in and I loved to see her arch, of gaining her feelings again, through the episode. It really shows that The Doctor needs to guide people, and can guide people, to be the best they can be. The way her immortality was is different and awesome. And I loved seeing her talk about how she could train to be impeccable at doing things because she had so much time.

Sam Swift, hmm, he was very interesting, as a character. Very well acted by Rufus Hound. And served well to the episode in being a character who was just so alive. I loved the scene with him on the gallows and he served as an interesting addition to the episode. I almost hope that he’s not immortal to be honest. Although I do like how they left it open to interpretation.

The Villain. I did like the villain, the prosthetic design was decent and they did a good job of bringing the character to life. It was a very serious threat and a serious villain, which was a nice change from last week. The Villain wasn’t the best, nor was it the most memorable. But they definitely did a good job and it served a purpose to the episode. I think that the ending was resolved a little too quickly. I would’ve liked to see the army do more damage, however, I will say that the way that the resolution was set up was good, in that it wasn’t just random. It was set up previously and didn’t end up being a deus ex machina ending. Kinda in a similar way to the Dalek sewers from The Magician’s Apprentice. Actually, this series has been very good at setting up the resolutions to the episode.

And yes, they actually acknowledged Captain Jack Harkness (then again it is written by Catherine Tragenna, who wrote the Torchwood episode Captain Jack Harkness, wow). Yes, they didn’t just ignore him. I mean he is such a big part of the Whoniverse, and to have an episode about an immortal without referencing the immortal character would be quite ridiculous. Oh and the line “He’ll get ’round to you at some point” was so amazing and so… Jack. Also, this episode really gave me a lot of perspective on the fact that Jack is a fixed point, whereas Ashildr is not, as she can die. I really liked this because it gave more significance to Jack’s immortality. Plus, it allowed a different concept of immortality.

I liked that Clara was only in the end of this episode, because it meant that The Doctor and Ashildr could go together well and she could be like the companion. Again, something that made her character underwhelming last week. Whereas she was given time to shine this week, in that she could become the companion. I do like that her absence was acknowledged and explained, even if it was simple. I did also like the scene at the end. That was very nice.

Like I say, I did enjoy this episode a lot. And I’m really glad that Maisie Williams lived up to the hype with her character. I think this episode will probably make me appreciate last episode more. (I did still like that episode though, I will say). This episode had great characters, a great setting and a great story.

The Walking Dead: Just Survive Somehow, Reaction

Tags

ย

Spoilers

Hello, it is Elliott, and welcome to my reaction of the very action-packed episode of The Walking Dead called Just Survive Somehow. Which is taken from Enid’s coping method, to help her survive. I will just say that I absolutely loved this episode. It was so action-packed, very well acted and unbelievably well directed. I also want to talk about characters in this episode, two in particular; Carol and Morgan.

First of all, I really want to mention the direction of the episode. It was amazing and it drew me in while watching. I think, I would have to say, that my favourite part of the episode is when we saw Carol looking out of the window at the woman smoking – yet then saw The Wolve coming to kill her, brutally. This scene was truly terrifying and horrific; really setting the tone for the rest of the episode and making for an awesome introduction to an awesome battle. This scene was made even more serious by the fact that we were introduced to the character, that we see die, at the start of the episode. She is a very, for the world that they live in, stupid and horrifically unprepared. This, again, sets the tone for the entire episode and gives us the idea that a lot of people are going to die.

Okay, so I have to talk about the legendary badass Carol Peletier. She was brilliant here. She knew what she had to do to keep the community safe. And, like Morgan said, was ready to spring into action at a moments notice. This really showed how capable she was and allowed her to tear down her motherly facaude that she’d created when arriving in Alexandria. She really got to be, fully, herself again and do what was necessary. This meant not wavouring from killing, when necessary, and showed us the lengths that Carol will go to to protect what she believes in.

Which is why it’s so interesting to see such a stark contrast in the character of Morgan. He will do a lot to keep the people of Alexandria safe. He has so much care and compassion for people. While this is amazing and very interesting to see, it also can be a bad thing, in that; not killing can get you, or people that you care about, killed. This is such an interesting change from Carol because they both have the same desire to keep the people of Alexandria safe (actually Morgan probably cares much, much more) but Morgan doesn’t want to kill. This episode is almost an arch for him in that, he had to revoke his morals because he had no other choice. He had to kill. The way that that was done was amazing in this episode and it shows that this world has to take people to new levels. This episode really did a good job of that in showing what the world did to The Wolves.

Overall, this episode was very nice to see and also showed us a different side to things that we didn’t see last week. This was one of the most action-packed and awesome episodes of The Walking Dead and felt completely like that. We got to see some of the characters being brought to new lengths and we saw that Rick was definitely right about the Alwxandrians being unprepared for attack. The episode almost weeded out the weak members of the community and the shot of the, usually peaceful, Alexandria filled with blood and bodies was shocking and really made you look back on how serious the attack was in this episode.

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, Who will side with who?

Spoilers

Civil War

Hello, I am Elliott. And, if you are anything like me, being a marvel fanboy, then you will be super excited for next year’s Captain America: Civil War. This is where Stark and Rogers (Iron Man and Cap) will face off against one another over different ideological standpoints on a new act put into place ‘The Superhero Registration Act’. This act will force every superhero to reveal their secret identity. Tony thinks that this is a great idea and decides to support the act, however Cap feels that it is wrong to force them to reveal their identities and decides to rebel against the act. Of course, them being on the same team, this means that those two become the main superhero figures for both sides of the argument. However, they can’t fight alone. They need a team to fight for what they believe in, and in this post I will be talking about who will appear on who’s side.

Captain America’s Team

Cap's Team

It’s a given that Falcon will be on his side, they’re best friends. Bucky (The Winter Soldier) appears to have been found by Falcon and it seems that he will be fighting alongside his old best friend, once again (which is very cool to see). If you stuck around ’till the end credits of Antman (like me and my best friend did when we watched it) then you will know that Falcon talked about getting someone, with Antman’s description, on his team. Making it highly likely that Scott Lang will be on Cap’s team, alongside Hope van Dyne, who’s going to become The Wasp and hopefully Micheal Douglas will reprise his role, which he played brilliantly, as the original Antman; Hank Pym. Hawkeye, who seems like he would definitely choose Cap’s side (which is the more morally right sight, I think). Then we have Agent 13 (Sharon Carter) who we see  Cap form a good bond with in The Winter Soldier.

Iron Man’s Team

Iron Man's Team

Okay, so now on to Tony’s team. First of all we have The War Machine (Rhodey) who’s Tony’s best friend so it was obvious that he’d be on Tony’s team. We then have The Black Panther; a very cool character who is being introduced into the MCU via this movie. Then we have The Vision. And finally, we have The Black Widow. I feel as though this will be very interesting to see her and Hawkeye on different sides, as they are best friends and it’ll be so cool to see what happens to their realationship because of them being at different ideological standpoints.

Okay so these were just what I gathered and what information has been released of who will be on who’s side. There’ll probably be more in the actual movie, however this is what I’m guessing and also what’s been officially revealed. So, who’s side are you on? Personally; Cap’s. Tell me who’s side you’re on in the comments, however.
